Kithulgala is a rich lowland tropical secondary rain forest situated beside the Kalani River and is enriched with tall, densely growing, evergreen trees and a diverse range of endemic fauna and flora. This small town also made famous by being a location for the film “Bridge on the River Kwai” which was screened in 1956.

Some of the interesting birds, which could be seen here include red-faced Malkoha, blue magpie, chestnut backed owlet layard’s parakeet, malabar trogon, orange-billed babbler, frogmouth and lesser yellow nape.
